Old Town / Chinatown, Portland, Oregon
The shanghai tunnels of early Portland were real. Many young men and women were sold to sea captains as deck hands and prostitutes. Lured by cheap drinks into one of the dock taverns, they were encouraged to drink until they passed out. Then the trap door, called a "deadfall" would open under their seat and they would fall into the tunnels below.
Many didn't last the wait for the next ship and died in the holding areas of the tunnels. This tragic and terrifying area is ripe with ghostly activity.
Disembodied moans and screams have been heard throughout the tunnels. Shadowy figures are seen walking through walls. Many have reported anomolies showing up in photos taken in the tunnels.
