The Biddeford City Theater has history dating back to 1896. It is known as one of the finest Victorian opera houses in America. During it's illustrious time it appears the theater has aquired a few ghosts.

One of the ghosts is known as Eva. Eva was an opera singer that toured the country with her young daughter in the early 1900's. During a Halloween performance at the Biddeford, Eva collapsed on stage. She was rushed back to a first floor dressing room but she insisted on returning to the stage, which she did. Upon returning to the dressing room she died with her young daughter in attendance.

Haunting activity that surrounds Eva includes the sound of a young girl calling out for her mother. Stage hands have been startled by the apparition of Eva, an attractive woman in a victorian style dress.

Another ghost that haunts the Biddeford is known as 'Mr. Murphy'. Mr. Murphy reportedly ran the Biddeford during the 1930's and '40's when it was a movie theater. He loved the theater and expected people to treat all of the equipment with respect. It's stated that Mr. Murphy did not trust women to run any electronic equipment during his time.

Today, Mr. Murphy is known to play with the light switches and other electronic equipment. People have reported that Mr. Murphy seems to become more active when a woman is behind the controls of stage lights.

While Eva and Mr. Murphy seem to be the most identifiable ghosts of the Biddeford, there has been other activity mentioned. The most strange is the witnessing of disembodied eyes appearing on the ceiling of the theater.
